Olomouc Peaks 2025 - Maria, Pia, Emma, and Hanka
The piece “Olomouc Peaks” was created and edited during a practice-intensive seminar on “From Henry David Thoreau to John Cage: American Transcendentalism & Sound” in 2025. The main influence seems to be David Lynch’s series Twin Peaks (1991). But first and foremost, the experience of participating in a seminar that takes place in a different country, where the language, people, and culture surrounding you are sublime in their new quality, every second reminds you of an inescapable dream state. When experiencing something that lies way beyond your comfort zone, every second is loaded with everything and anything, without pause or stagnation. Transcending your ordinary world, you step into a new version of what the world holds, growing into a new self. Such a metamorphosis is mostly only realized by reflection and not while it is taking place. Hence, during this micro expansion of the world, and of the self during these changes, your senses are alleviated and numbed simultaneously, creating this undefinable dream-state which is culminated within this piece; as sound transcends mere words. This state reminded us of the general atmosphere in Twin Peaks, especially the liminal space of the Black Lodge and the numerous external and internal transformations of the characters. First comes Olomouc, then Twin Peaks. Enjoy the sublimity of our dreamy transcendence of the senses!
